The purpose of this continuing legal education program is to introduce attorneys to the basics of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 as it applies to instances of sexual harassment, misconduct, and violence in K – 12 institutions.    The CLE will:

  • review how the US Department of Education Office for Civil Rights (OCR), the agency and department charged with implementing Title IX, has outlined the mechanisms that institutions have to have in place to be in compliance. This will include a review of OCR’s “substantive guidance documents”—the Dear Colleague Letters of 2011 on Title IX, 2014 on Charter Schools, 2015 on Title IX Coordinators, and OCR’s 2014 Question and Answers on Title IX and Sexual Violence, clarifying the legal requirements of Title IX as articulated in the 2011 Dear Colleague Letter  (10:00 am – 11:00 am)
